Toward an Open-Source Foundation Ontology Representing the Longman's Defining Vocabulary: The COSMO Ontology OWL Version
نویسنده
چکیده
The COSMO foundation ontology is being developed to test the hypothesis that there are a relatively small number (under 10,000) of primitive ontology elements that are sufficient to serve as the building blocks for any number of more specialized ontology elements representing concepts and terms used in any computer application. Finding evidence for this hypothesis would suggest that a promising tactic to achieve Semantic Interoperability among computer applications is to focus effort on the common foundation ontology to that ontology that contains those primitive elements. This will constrain the size of the ontology on which agreement is required, to the minimum that will support accurately relating domain and application ontologies to each other. The rationale, methodology and current status of this project is reported here. Index Terms – Foundation ontology, conceptual primitives, COSMO, semantic interoperability, common ontology, ontology mapping, Longman, defining vocabulary.

An Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)
Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...
متن کاملManaging the transition from OBO to OWL: The COBrA-CT Bio-Ontology Tools
This paper presents the COBrA-CT ontology tools, which include an ontology server database and version manager client tool for collaborative ontology development, and an editor for bioontologies that are represented in the Web Ontology Language (OWL) format. The ontology server uses OGSA-DAI Grid technology to provide access to the ontology server database. These tools implement the agreed stan...
متن کاملReasonable Ontology Templates: APIs for OWL
Reasonable Ontology Templates, OTTRs for short, are OWL ontology macros capable of representing ontology design patterns (ODPs) and closely integrating their use into ontology engineering. An OTTR is itself an OWL ontology or RDF graph, annotated with a special purpose OWL vocabulary. This allows OTTRs to be edited, debugged, published, identified, instantiated, combined, used as queries and bu...
متن کاملImplementing OWL Defaults
While it has been argued that knowledge representation for the World Wide Web must respect the open world assumption due to the “open” nature of the Web, users of the Web Ontology Language (OWL) have often requested some form of non-monotonic reasoning. In this paper, we present preliminary optimizations and an implementation of a restricted version of Reiter’s default logic as an extension to ...
متن کاملTime in OWL-S
To provide support for describing temporal properties for OWL-S (formerly DAML-S), in this paper we first introduce an “entry” sub-ontology of time, which is much simpler than the full ontology of DAML-Time (Hobbs 2002) and provides the basic temporal concepts and relations that most simple applications would need, i.e., a vocabulary for expressing facts about topological relations among instan...
